Downtown Hampton is cooking it up!

Let's debate. Who has better seafood? Virginia or Maryland. Who has better soul food? Virginia or ummm...a state further in the deep south. Virginia is not in the deep south for those of you who do not know that (hint:Whoopi Goldberg). O.k. back to the debate.

I don't know if you noticed but Southeastern Virginia is surrounded by water that carries some of the best seafood on the east coast. And being that Virginia has southern characteristics shows that VA packs some soul, too. So, "what a diva knows for sure" today is: you decide for yourself if Hampton,VA knows how to throw down in the kitchen.

Downtown Hampton wants you to come out October the 5th through the 12th and try great dishes from 10 different restaurants. You can try a little bit of soul food at Mary Helens Southern and Creole cuisine or Queens Way Soul Cafe'. Maybe your in the mood for fish and crabcakes at the Old Hampton Seafood Kitchen. Hey, no matter what, you have 7 other great restaurants to choose from, too.

Starting on the 5th of October, you can get a 3 course lunch for $10 or a 3 course dinner for $20. Check outhttp://www.downtownhampton.com/ for more info.
I'm betting on the VA crabcakes.......

Move Over Football....Diva's are back in Primetime

Round up the girls and get ready because the hottest show in primetime is back on ABC. Yes, the "Desperate Housewives" season premiere is coming on in two hours. Has anyone seen the hot promo's for the show? I almost cried looking at their amazing bodies as I stuffed my face with a twinkie! Excercise plan tomorrow, ASAP! I have a ton of work to do but I am definitely going to watch the premiere and can't wait to dish about tonight's episode.

Don't forget about the "Sisters and Brother's" season 2 premiere, 10 tonight on ABC....hot, hot, hot!

Set your tivo's or if your old school like me (your VCR) to the CW's Monday night premiere of "The Game". I absolutely love this show! I can't wait to steal some more of those "Tasha Mackisms" and see how Derwin and his girl Melanie (Tia Mowry) make up for his affair with that pretty chick that played that singer....what's her name? I believe it's Drew Sidora..I still don't get why the story line had to go in that direction. But, this show is fabolous. If you missed the first season, please check it out before you watch tomorrow night's premiere.http://cwtv.com/shows/the-game

Factor This....I'm thinking O'Reilly..I actually think

Bill O'reilly put his foot in his mouth once again. On a recent airing of his radio show "The Factor", O'reilly made some comments about black folk that are just out of this world. If you haven't heard them yet, take a quick listen at this linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q84eSxIiKqc

I know, it's unreal.

Check this out. I was sitting in a Chinese food restaurant the other day. As I was waiting for my food, this girl came in talking loud on her cellphone, "Hey I know right.. sh**, this B**** just don't know, o.k.?" She orders her food and unfortunately they mess up her order, "I wanted chicken and fried rice...who the F***eats white rice?"
There was a white couple sitting in the corner watching her and they shook their heads. A black girl was sitting across from me, looked in my direction and mouthed, "Why did it have to be a black girl who went off like that?"

All I could think about was Bill O' Reilly. I was thinking, we don't even need to worry about the negative portrayals of blacks in the media that give O'Reilly his stereotypical view points. There is bad representation of black culture right in this Chinese food restaurant.

Here's what I know for sure: That incident strictly involved that girl. That didn't mean that all blacks act like that. I know why that girl wanted to know "Why did it have to be a black girl who went off like that?" Nobody wants additions or confirmations to the bigotry of Bill O'Reilly's thought process. Let's talk about good ole O'Reilly.

According to O'Reilly, I'm 22 years old, a women of color and I can't think for myself until Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend Al Sharpton say so.

He says I didn't know that I could make it in this world with an education. I look up to Ludacris, Twista and Snoop Dogg for my source of black leadership. I scream when I go to a restaraunt and say "M-fer I want my ice tea!" That is who I am in a nutshell. You got it right O'Reilly. "What a diva knows for sure" wants to say this: "Factor this O'Reilly, ARE YOU CRAZY?" Unbelievable.

Last time I checked, most of my friends are graduating or have already obtained their bachelor's degree from one of the top black colleges in the country. I know African Americans who attended the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Columbia University, Princeton University, grad school at Yale, New York University......do I need to go on?

Oh and by the way, known of these individuals who attended these institutions consulted Jackson or Sharpton about their school choices. They did something that black people(in O'Reilly's opinion) know nothing about, a little concept called: thinking on their own.

We don't need Jackson and Sharpton to lead us in a race based culture. I agree with rapper Mos Def's statement to Bill Maher on a recent airing of Maher's HBO series, Mos Def said " I know two Americas."
African Americans know that we live in a race based culture and it is unavoidable. Jackson and Sharpton didn't tell me that. We know two Americas. The one we live in....and the one that Bill O'Reilly lives in.

Questions for Jena 6

I'm pretty sure you all have heard about Michael Bell and the Jena 6, right?
I want to pose a question. After Americans stood up last week and came together under the color "black", did that sense of unity seen last Thursday leave its mark in small town Jena, Louisiana?

Why do I ask?

Michael Bell, one of the Jena six, was released from jail yesterday on a $45,000 bail. Bell, along with six other young black men were accused of beating a white classmate and were originally being charged as adults.

It's not quite over for Bell. Even though he was released from jail yesterday, Bell will still be charged as a juvenile.

What made D.A. Reed Walters,http://www.22ndjd.org/ ,change his mind about charging Bell as an adult? Was it the pressure from Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco, http://www.gov.state.la.us/, advising him to re-think the charges? Or did D.A. Reed Walters really see and feel the message that this nation sent last Thursday, that we will not tolerate injustice and unfairness under the law?

"What a Diva Knows for sure" poses the questions this week....and I will let you decide. Tell me...what do you know for sure about the recent changes in the Jena 6 case?

Oh...The Dating Game

Can I just get a round of applause for this photo. Yes! Detroit native, Braylon Edwards is a 24 year old wide reciever for the Cleveland Browns. This NFL Hearthrob is also one of Essence Magazine's 2007 Most Eligible Bachelors. Better yet ladies, you had the opportunity to contact him via email in August!Sigh...were a little late.

Even if you don't watch football as much as I do and your just seeing Edwards for the first time, doesn't it make you ask yourself a question:LORD HAVE MERCY WHERE CAN I FIND ME A BRAYLON EDWARDS...and then you exhale.

They are definitely not in the clubs. Never find a man in a nightclub! EVER! I am officially going on a man hiatus. Today! Saturday I hit up the club with my girls in search of a good time. It was a typical ordinary night out.

You go to the club not to meet somebody intentionally, right? You go to the club on the hope creed that "hopefully" you might meet a dude who will have that touch of suave to keep you interested past 5 minutes. NOT!

Never happens. Lessons learned from Saturday's encounter with a not so suave man: Men over the age of 21, should leave their baggage at home. Do not tell me all of your baby mama drama issues, lack of a job, and all your past history within the first 15 minutes of meeting you. Whew!

Television this week has not allowed anyone to get away from talking about dating. I woke up yesterday morning to watch Fox's " Morning show with Mike and Juliet", http://www.mandjshow.com/ and their first topic of the day is why married men are attracted to single women. Agggh! Oh no its gets better.

I decided to turn to MSNBC's "today show" and right out the gate Ann Curry let's us know that we'll be hearing about "the biggest sex mistakes women make in their relationships". http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633
Just when I couldn't take anymore talk about dating and relationships, I go to http://www.essence.com/ and see a contest that Essence magazine calls "30 dates and 30 days". It looked like an online reality dating show. You are able to watch six African American women go on different dates and get their feedback on how they felt about it. So, now reality dating show's are going online? Hmmmm.......

The queen of talk, Oprah Winfrey topped off the day with an episode about open marriages.......can we say enough already!!!!! Just when I thought it was over, ABC's Rachel Ray starts this morning off with the topic: what message does your outfit send to a man on a first date? Seriously? My hiatus is calling.
